General
Volume is primarily a handwritten autobiography of Jonathan Oldham Duke, up to about June 1850, when Duke starts writing individual diary entries during his journey along the Mormon Trail to Salt Lake City, Utah. The diary entries end in September 1850 when Duke arrives in the Salt Lake Valley. Autobiography was likely written in 1850, and includes details of Duke's conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1839 and life in Nauvoo, Illinois, from 1840 until they left for Utah in 1850.
