Note on verso: "152. 'NO SLAVES ARE WE!' say these Red Star-spangled girl-workers in the Soviet factories at Wu Chi-cheng in North Shensi. Workers in the Communists' various textile, garment, woolen, and rug factories do indeed, have a far healthier, happier life than the child-workers in Shanghai and elsewhere in China's sweatshops, many of whom work 12 or 14 hours a day and are in fact bargained for by contract-labor precisely like slaves. Red factories operate 24 hours daily but there are three shifts, each of which works but eight hours. The workers are given food, loding, receive salaries of from $10 to $15 per month, get annual vacations, and have their own schools, theatre and athletic associations. Photo by Edgar Snow, 1936."
