Biographical History

Rowland Chatham "Bud" Barton was born on April 18, 1924, in Greenville, South Carolina. He graduated from high school in 1941. His love of airplanes led him to attempt to join the Air Corps, but recruitment had stopped, so he joined the Marines. He was trained as a radar technician. He married his longtime girlfriend Margaret at an army chapel while stationed in Florida. After his service, he studied electrical engineering at Auburn University and worked as a petroleum engineer for Exxon. He received his private pilot's license and used it to travel across the country with his wife, visiting their children and grandchildren. He passed away on May 5, 2009, in Grand Junction, CO.
