Note on verso: "Only Pix known to Helen F. Snow to be photographed during the Long March, given to her by Wang Chen when he told his life to her. There were 3 or 4 Long Marches this was of the 2d Front Army. This pix would have been taken by a photographer in the town, not by any Red Army person. Wang was very proud of this pix--his most treasured possession carried on his Long March 1935-6. Wang Chen, political commissar for Hsiao Keh (2d Front Red Army), negotiating with Mao tribes at Pi Chieh-hsien, Kweichow, 1936, Feb. He rep. the 6th Red Army; for his story see The Chinese Communists."
