Administrative History

The Department of Religious Education (1929-1940) was an instructional unit at Brigham Young University.

The Department of Religious Education was formed in 1929 in a reorganization of the earlier Department of Theology. The department provided instruction in religious and ethical life, Bible and Mormon scriptures, Mormon history, philosophy, psychology of religion, social and recreational leadership, and anthropology. Department chairs included George H. Brimhall (1929-1932) and Guy C. Wilson (1933-1939). In 1940 the department was reorganized as the Division of Religion.

Biographical History

Wilma Jeppson (1895-1939) was a professor of physical education in Utah.

Wilma Jeppson was born on July 23, 1895 to Hans Jeppson and Dorothy Riggs. She taught physical education in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was recruited by Eugene Roberts to teach at Brigham Young University in 1923. She received her bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1927, and completed a master's degree at Columbia University in 1930.

Jeppson served as the director of the BYU Women's Athletic Association in 1932. She also served on the board of directors of the Deseret Gymnasium, and as a member of the general board of the Primary Association.

Jeppson died on January 28, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
