Administrative History
BYU Studies first began publication in 1959, although there was another publication by the same name published in the 1920s and 1930s, as a journal that would correlate scholarly work with Latter-Day Saints’ belief. The journal was to accept scholarly work from all of the disciplines and also works of art, poems, and stories. The editor at its inception was Clinton F. Larson. The journal, which failed to grow as quickly as expected, was given a new format and a new look when Charles D. Tate Jr. took over as editor in 1967 and served until 1983. Edward A. Geary then took over and served until 1991 when John W. Welch took over.
