Oral history interview with Algie E. Ballif
Scope and Contents
DVD sound recording and transcript of an oral history interview with Ballif. The interview includes her time as a student at Brigham Young University from 1915-1916, her time as a student of Radcliffe College in Boston in 1921, and the initial years of her service in the newly-created Dance program at BYU from the 1920s and 1930s. Material dated August 1982.

Biographical History
Algie E. Ballif (1896-1984) was a dance professor and legislator in Utah.
Algie Eggertsen Ballif was born in Provo, Utah on May 3, 1896 to parents Lars and Annie Eggertsen. While getting her bachelor's degree at Brigham Young University, she met and married future Provo city attorney and District Attorney George S. Ballif in 1920. After graduating from BYU and attending Radcliffe College (the former womens' college of Harvard) while her husband was living in Boston, she became a professor of dance and elocution at BYU. Afterwards, she served as a member of the Board of Regents for the University of Utah, a member of the Provo City Council, and the Utah House of Representatives from 1959-1961. She was the mother to three children, including Georganne (Gigi) Arrington and Anne Greta Peterson, and died in her residence in Provo on July 11, 1984.

Marion Wixom McCardell (born 1954) is a communications professor in Utah.
Marion Wixom McCardell was born to Idaho teacher and Brigham Young University alumnus Zoe Wixom and Franklin Don Wixom in 1954. In April 28, 1976 she married Stephen Jack McCardell in Utah. Two years later she wrote her dissertation "Parental Contol of Children: An Exploration of the Relationship Between Control and Family Home Evening", which detailed the connection of television use in a Family Home Evening background, and then shortly after graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's in English and master's in Communication. She currently teaches both subjects at Salt Lake Community College.
Biographical History
Gigi Arrington (born 1956) is a dance instructor and education specialist in Utah.
Georganne Ballif was born to Provo attorney George Eggertsen Ballif in around 1956. She graduated with her bachelor's in University Studies from Brigham Young University in 1977, and after marrying her husband David Lees Arrington in 1978, worked on her masters degree in Dance until 1983. During her time at BYU she also served as a member of the Dance faculty from 1981 to 1984. Once she graduated, she taught in various institutions including the University of Nevada System, the Rice-Woodbury Dance Company, and Arizona State University. She has also served as the board president of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Utah.
