Biographical History
Robert Neelly Bellah is the Elliott Professor of Sociology Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley. He was educated at Harvard University, receiving his BA in 1950 and PhD in 1955. He began teaching at Harvard in 1957 and left there as a professor of Sociology in 1967 to teach at UC Berkeley. He served as the UC Berkeley Ford Professor of Sociology from 1967-1997. He also chaired the Center for Japenese and Korean Studies from 1968-1974.
