Biographical History

From the Collection:

J. R. Kearl (born 1947) is an economics professor and educational administrator in Utah.

James R. Kearl was born on May 27, 1947 in Logan, Utah. He earned his bachelor's degree at Utah State University, then obtained a law degree at Harvard Law School and a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1974 he joined the economics faculty at Brigham Young University. During his time at BYU he has served as Associated Academic Vice President (1989-1991). He has also served as a special assistant to the United States Secretary of Defense (1983-1984), a member of United States Census Bureau Advisory Board on Population Statistics (1991-1994), and as chair of the Food and Care Coalition Board (2005- ).
