Biographical / Historical
The Department of Counseling Psychology & Special Education is a department within the David O. McKay School of Education that offers minors, undergraduates, and graduate degrees in Counseling Psychology and Special Education. It was established in 2000. It was formerly known as the Department of Counseling and Special Education. The department was housed within the David O. McKay School of Education.
It operated under a chairman who reported to the dean of the school. Chairmen have included: Ronald D. Bingham (2000-2003), Mary Anne Prater (2004-2010), and Timothy Smith (2010- ). This department administered undergraduate and graduate courses in the fields of Counseling Psychology and Special Education. Degrees offered were an MS in School Counseling Psychology and Special Education, and a PhD in Counseling Psychology. A minor in Special Education was offered until 2003, whereupon it was changed to a BS in Special Education.
