Administrative History
The original production of Saturday's Warrior ran from March 26 to 5 April 5, 1974. Music was composed by Lex de Azevedo; book and lyrics were by Doug Stewart. According to the director, Dr. Harold R. Oaks, the musical "romanticized Mormon beliefs about the pre-existence: the promises made there and the resulting mixups that occur in earth life." The BYU Department of Theater and Cinematic Arts presented the original production of the musical Dance on a Country Grave on December 3, 1971. This was the result of an agreement between BYU and Creative management Associates of Los Angeles to foster cooperation between academic and professional theater. The musical is based on Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy; book, music and lyrics are by Kelly Hamilton, a client of CMA. After the premiere at BYU, the production played at the Playhouse Theater in Los Angeles on February 12, 1972.
