Administrative History
The public relations program at Brigham Young University had no effective center until 1955 when President Wilkinson appointed Dean A. Peterson as director. Director Peterson was to be an administrator who coordinated all of the University’s public relations activities. Other programs were under the direction of the Director and included public services, press relations, lyceum concert and lecture series, forums and devotionals, etc. Public relations is a part of University relations and the specific mandate is in the area of non-media public relations, community relations, special events, inaugurations, dedications, hosting VIPs and visiting dignitaries.
