Administrative History

The Department of Biology (1985-2003) was an instructional unit at Brigham Young University.

The Department of Biology was established in 1985. The department was part of the College of Biology and Agriculture, and functioned in association with the Department of Secondary Education. Prior to this time, biology was not a department-level program, and was managed directly by the college through a program coordinator. The department was administered by coordinators Bruce Nephi Smith (1985-1989), Richard R. Tolman (1989-1993), and beginning in 1993 under the joint direction of Richard R. Tolman and Don D. Bloxham (1993-2003).
