Administrative History
The Sunday School (1892-1903) was a religious program operated by Brigham Young Academy in conjunction with the Deseret Sunday School Union.
The Sunday School was established in 1892 to provide Sunday religious instruction as part of the larger movement in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Meetings included an opening program and a sacrament service, followed by classes based on the age of the students. Beginning in 1893, the school became a model program and provided an instruction program for Sunday School instructors in the region. This course was initially a five week program in 1894, but the following year was extended to twenty weeks. Sunday School workers from the surrounding areas were called on to attend these sessions for training. To support their role as a model program, the Provo Fourth Ward Sunday School was merged with the Brigham Young Academy Sunday School between 1894 and 1896, expanding their class options.
The Sunday normal school continued in operation through 1903, when Brigham Young Academy was renamed Brigham Young University.
