Administrative History

The School of Library and Information Sciences (1976-1993) was a graduate program at Brigham Young University.

The School of Library and Information Sciences was established by Brigham Young University in 1976. Organized with the intent to better train librarians for the university, the school educated students so that they could use their abilities for better efficiency areas such as learning resource centers, instructional media centers, libraries, and information centers. In 1993, the school was closed by the university.

Biographical History

H. Curtis Wright (1928-2012) was a professor at Brigham Young University.

Herbert Curtis Wright was born on February 19, 1928 to Herbert Emir Wright and Frances Minerva Curtis Wright. He served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948 and then went on a Mormon mission to the Navajo reservation from 1948 to 1950. Wright received three master's degree in library science and Semitic languages before earning his PhD in Library Science and Greek Literature from Case Western University in 1969. In 1969 he began to teach in the School of Library and Information Sciences at Brigham Young University. He worked there until his retirement in 1993.

In 1957 Wright married Jeannene Dowding and together they had five sons. After Jeannene died in 1996, Wright married Jean Bates, though she too passed away in 2009. Wright died after a brief illness on June 28, 2012.
