Scope and Contents

A foundation and parts of side panels of a formerly large home that belonged to the Crocker family; only the front entryway and sidewalls remain. There is a chimney on both sides of the debris. Two men are standing on the left side of the entryway and one man is sitting on the right side. On the hill to the left are two men carrying objects next to telephone poles.

This is a view of housetops with an extremely smoky sky above. In the foreground to the left are bushes on top of the building. In the distance large shattered buildings are in view, and towards the right there is a domed-roof building identified as the Call Building. The farthest building on the right is nothing but skeleton scaffolding.

This view shows San Francisco after the earthquake and fire from the vantage of Nob Hill looking southwest. In the distance and at the extreme right is the Hall of Records. A bare, scalded tree trunk and bush are in the foreground amongst bricks and rubble with damaged buildings in the background. On the left of the foreground is an open area with rubble spilling out of it.

A city scene of damaged buildings, poles, and brick rubble covering the ground. The building on the right with a domed roof is identified as the Call Building. There are many telephone poles and wires scattered around the ground. In the center there is a broken telephone pole with the top portion sitting on the ground. There is a wire fence surrounding a rubble-strewn field.

Looking down to a city scene of damaged buildings. The building of tall scaffolding on the right is identified as the Whittell Building. On the right is a damaged pole surrounded by a broken wall. There is a fire hydrant on the corner of the sidewalk and in the middle of the street is a pile of wires or cables. To the right are many buildings that are nothing but empty scaffolding.

There is a lot of rubble and bricks covering the ground, with remains of buildings in the background. The foreground contains a chimneystack, blackened columns of bricks and broken poles spread throughout the block. On the right there are many chimney columns standing amidst rubble. There are groups of people walking throughout the rubble. On the left there is a section of scorched trees lining the street.
