Edward M. Hayhurst letters, 1863 October
Contains eleven letters from Edward Hayhurst to his brother Willie, his father, his mother, or his brother Thomas during October 1863. The letters were written while in a temporary camp in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and engaged in the "Chattanooga campaign"--the Cumberland Army was able to open "cracker lines" for supplies and communication from Brown's Ferry and Lookout Mountain, and broke General Bragg's siege (in place since the Confederate victory at the Battle of Chickamauga).
