Scope and Contents

Materials include forty-seven photographs that document campus life in the 1920s. Subjects include Cleo and Tarbo (early Brigham Young University cougar cub mascots), the construction of the Heber J. Grant Library, lower campus, and student activities. Also included are photographs of Mount Timpanogos. Dated approximately 1920-1929.

Biographical History

Joseph C. Nelson (1901-1952) was an architect in Utah.

Joseph Call Nelson was born on May 24, 1901 in Brigham City, Utah to Joseph Nelson and Sarah Eliza Call. He was a student at Brigham Young University and went on to a career as an architect, working in Provo and Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1928 he married Dorothy Decker, and they had four children together. Nelson died on November 22, 1952 in Provo, Utah.
