Correspondence between the donor, Richard Poll, and the Snow, Nuffer, Engstrom, and Drake firm re the Supreme Court case, May 15, 1989. Appellant’s Brief on Appeal for Utah Supreme Court case No. 890053, In the Matter of the Adoption of 5 Minors, Pat, Janet, and Calvin Johanson, Intervenors/Appellees, vs. Vaughn and Sharane Fischer, Petitioners/Appellants (the firm Snow, Nufferm, Engstrom and Drake, in which Richard Poll is a partner, were employed on behalf of the petitioners, Vaughn and Sharane Fischer).
Petitioners Vaughn and Sharane Fischer, members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, filed a petition on June 30, 1987 to adopt the five children, ages 5-19, of Brenda and Joseph Thornton (both deceased at the time of this case, though Brenda has recently become the second wife of Vaughn Fischer). The appeal was contested by Pat and Janet Johanson, Brenda’s half-sisters.
