Restricted. Closed for 50 years from the date of creation of the records, and thereafter open to the public in accordance with the L. Tom Perry Special Collections Restriction Policy. Administrative History

Brigham Young University Independent Study (1979- ) is a department at Brigham Young University.

The Department of Independent Study Programs was established in 1979. It was previously known as Home Study. Independent Study is under the supervision of a director who reports directly to the dean of the Division of Continuing Education. The directors of the department are as follows: Orson B. Roper (1981-1982), Richard C. Eddy (1982-1985), Ralph A. Rowley (1985-1994), R. Dwight Laws (1994-2009), and Justin K. Johansen (2009- ).

Through its Independent Study program, BYU offers more than 300 college-level credit courses, providing practical and convenient solutions for students with scheduling problems and for working students, armed forces personnel, and others who cannot take all their classes in residence.

The materials have been left in the original order in which they were found. This order appears to be grouped by subject with some materials being chronological or alphabetical.
