Scope and Contents

Collection contains blueprints, correspondence, and other business papers related to Boyden's work with the Ute Indian Tribe, which includes materials relating to a court case presented by Boyden before the U.S. Indian Claims Commission. Also included are items relating to anthropological and archaeological findings on the Hopis and Navajos, clinical and death records, memoranda, congressional reports, published articles, maps, and other materials relating to the Hopi and Navajo nations, their history, and their culture. Dated 1952-1980.

Biographical History

John S. Boyden (1906-1980) was a lawyer in Utah. He was the former partner of John Paul Kennedy, and oversaw the legal affairs of the Ute Indian Tribe.

Boyden was born on April 14, 1906, to Walter Mitchell and Ann Thomas Boyden of Coalville, Utah. He married the only daughter of George Gillis and Sara Evans Sweeten and fathered four children.
