Biographical / Historical
Robert Joseph Johnson was born circa 1828 in England. While living in Hereford, he served as a manager for G. R. Herron and Son for 21 years. He had two sons (Robert and Jacob John) and two daughters (Elizabeth Penbridge and Grace Susan Bowen) before immigrating to Utah in June 1884. He died 11 April 1903 in Salt Lake City, where he had settled.
The material in this collection was bought at the auction of Steve Kovacich material by Lyn Knight Currency Auctions in Salt Lake City, November 1999. This material was separated from a larger collection, Milas E. Johnson Family Papers (MSS 2204), because it comprised a different Johnson family. While every attempt to identify which items belonged to which Johnson family were made, some materials had no identifying information to distinguish them.
