Scope and Contents

Contains two minute books for the Pinto Ward Primary Association (1880-1890; 1890-1903), including an account of the organization of the institution on 6 December 1880 by Eliza R. Snow, Zina D. Young, and Minerva Snow; three minute books for the Pinto Ward Sunday School (1888-1896; 1896-1902; 1902-1904); statistical and financial reports for the Pinto Ward Sunday School for 1893, 1897, 1898, and 1900; a 1910 Pinto Ward tithing record; a 1912 Pinto Ward Statistical Report, including ward officers and a list of non-tithe payers; and a 1912 record of ward members, including marriages, births, deaths, baptisms, and ordinations.

Administrative History

Pinto, Utah was first settled in the fall of 1856 by missionaries serving among the Indians in the southern Utah area. It was organized into a branch on 17 July 1859, became a ward on 11 July 1867. The ward was dissolved in 1916 as most of the members had relocated to the town of Newcastle, twelve miles north of Pinto.

Custodial History

The collection was in the possession of Grant Harrison for approximately five years before it was donated to the L. Tom Perry Special Collections. He obtained the records from a family member, but it is unknown how that individual came into possession of them.
