Includes index cards reflecting Yarn's arrangement of his papers; class notes, notes and early drafts of dissertation from Columbia University, 1946-1958; pamphlets, maps, itineraries, journal notes and memories, accounts, participant lists, and talks or addresses from World of the Bible (Israel) tours, 1971,1975,1977; works by David Yarn; radio series, "Faith in a Day of Unbelief," 1952; publishing information, correspondence, draft copies and revisions of Yarn's book "The Four Gospel As One" and "The Gospel: God, Man, and Truth;" Commencement Exercises, 1978,1979; printed materials from multiple authors, the majority of printed matter relates to religious (Bible) topics; class lists, teachers' names, class notes and other materials from Yarn's time as a student at BYU; student evaluations and thank you notes, 1965-1985; personal papers - family letter, family life, and papers concerning areas of interest, politics, government, and foreign affairs; personal documents and correspondence, talk information, drafts and chapters of the book "The Honorable Mr. Clark" concerning the J. Reuben Clark, Jr. collection; J. Reuben Clark selected papers on religion, education, and youth conference talks, misc. papers and letters (family and friends). Biographical History
David H. Yarn was born in 1920 in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Georgia Tech before serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Western States Mission. After completing his mission, he attended Brigham Young University. Yarn married Marilyn Stevenson in 1946. Upon completing his bachelor’s degree, Yarn taught theology classes at BYU before attending Columbia University to obtain his master’s degree. He then returned to BYU as an assistant professor of philosophy and theology and quickly became chairman of the Department of Theology and Religious Philosophy. After six years of serving as department chair, Yarn took a sabbatical to earn a PhD from Columbia University. He was then promoted to the position of associate professor and director of the Religion Department at BYU. Yarn was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and general editor of the J. Reuben Clark project. He also served as a writer of the Melchizedek Priesthood manual committee. After retiring from teaching, Yarn served as a temple sealer in the Provo, Utah temple and president of the Atlanta, Georgia temple. He died at home in Provo, Utah, in 2012.
