Administrative History

Utah Sorosis (est. 1897) is a women's club in Provo, Utah. The group is focused on personal development, and supported local libraries and academic programs.

Utah Sorosis was organized on March 6, 1897 in the Hotel Roberts in Provo, Utah. The constitution was drafted and adopted at the first meeting. The club's original name was The Progressive Club, but was renamed a week after its inception as Utah Sorosis, which served to imply sisterhood. One year after its organization, the club joined the National Federation of Women's Clubs. It was the second literary club organized in Provo, and the third oldest federated club in the state. The club had a stated objective to "work toward the highest development of its members through any avenue of study and work that may seem profitable." Their motto was taken from the writings of James Russell Lowell, "Not failure but low aim is crime." Their colors are cream and heliotrope.

Administrative History

Phile Teras of Sorosis (est. 1945) was a women's club in Provo, Utah. This small group associated with Utah Sorosis was established to involve younger women in the community. They were involved in community projects, and has regular programs at their meetings. The group was dissolved in 2006.
