Photocopies of a typewritten autobiography with handwritten notes and corrections. Sinclair tells of his service with the British Army prior to, during, and after World War I. The autobiography is in three parts with the following titles: "The Bending of the Twig," "A New Creation," and "Ich Dien."

Biographical History

Bryan Sinclair was a British soldier who, during his first eight years, served as a sentry on the grounds of Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle and in Bermuda. He was promoted to sergeant. Later he was the regimental quartermaster with the Irish Guards during World War I. Sinclair was born in Ireland during the 1860s. His mother's name was Bessie and she was a twin. His maternal grandfather's name was William. Sinclair's father was an iron founder in Dublin and died in 1869. Sinclair was educated by Quakers. He apprenticed to Granite Merchants and worked 12 hour-days. At 18 years of age, he broke his indenture and enlisted in the army in Birkenhead, England. He later married and had one daughter, Dorothy, and three sons, Henry, William, and Gerald. He called his wife, Bert and her last name was Burke. This collection contains approximately 538 pages of photocopies of a typewritten autobiography with handwritten notes and corrections. Sinclair tells of his service with the British Army prior to, during, and after World War I.
