Photocopy of a handwritten and signed letter dated 11 April 1840 and addressed to "my dear Father & Mother," then living in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Richards writes largely about family matters. Richards wants to go on a mission for the Mormon Church and needs permission of his parents because he was not yet twenty-one years old.
