 File — Folder: 1
Identifier: MSS SC 1361

Scope and Contents

Handwritten and bound manuscript in French entitled "LES FOLIES D'UN PENSEUR" (The Foolishness of a Thinker). The item contains various writings on philosophical topics such as the process by which authors are inspired, and how men come to worship God. It also contains some thoughts on the human condition. These are followed by a long dissertation on Napoleon (1769-1821) and Napoleon III (1808-1873). The author writes about the latter's politics, character, and morality. Following these are thoughts on places such as Nice and Belgium and comments on music, poetry, and other arts. On the inside cover of the book is a bookplate inscribed "Antverpia - Ex Libris Emile Dilis."
