Oral history interviews with Uriah and Annie Butt, conducted on 29 May 1978 by Doug Daniels and Ruth Meo for the Utah State Historical Society and California State University, Fullerton Oral History Program. The subjects are the history of Bluff, Utah and Annie and Uriah's life stories. Most of Uriah's discussion focuses on cattle ranching, and Annie's interview details her life and feelings about it. A 17 page, typed life story of Uriah, written by his wife, is included. 14 pages of photocopied pictures are also included.

Biographical History

Uriah Butt (1897-1979) married 7 March 1919, in 1936 he was blinded by a dynamite accident.

Uriah Butt was born 5 August 1897 at Verdure, San Juan, Utah to Willard George William and Julia Ann Maria Nielson Butt. He had two sisters and one brother. He married Annie Marie Poole on 7 March 1919 in Manti, Utah. They lived in Bluff, Utah and had five children. In 1936 Uriah was blinded by a dynamite accident while working as a state foreman. He lived in this state until his death on 2 May 1979 in Blanding, San Juan, Utah.

Biographical History

Annie Marie Poole Butt was born 14 July 1896 in Revenna, Spartenburg, South Carolina to John Simpson and Mary Elizabeth Mathis Poole. Annie's family moved to Idaho when she was about three years old, and then moved back to South Carolina for five years. They then relocated to Blanding, Utah where Annie eventually met her husband, Uriah. She died 20 June 1984 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah.
