Scope and Contents
William M. Slaughter's correspondence and legal documents include the following:
1) Maps of Denver, Colorado, showing locations of mining lodes.
2) William Slaughter's Internal Revenue License, 1866.
3) Certificates of William Slaughter's appointments to Notary Public for Clear Creek County (1863), Arakahoe County (1871), County of Boulder (1874), and Larimer County (1881 and 1885).
4) Daily and Weekly Colorado Mining journal subscription receipt, a blacksmith receipt, and other receipts.
5) Records of discoveries of new mining lodes, discovered by William M. Slaughter and two other men; mining claims.
6) Certificate stating Slaughter received the majority of votes cast for members of the House in the Seventh Territorial Legislature.
7) Correspondence with James Thompson and with W. W. Dudley. 8) Certificate of Slaughter’s appointment as attorney, 1872.
9) List of William Slaughter's "former partnerships," 1894.
10) A telegraph to "Misses Skinner and Ritchie," 1889.

Biographical History
William Slaughter may have been born around 1831 in Ohio. The 1870 census shows a William M. Slaughter living in Denver; the 1880 census shows a William M. Slaughter farming in Larimer, Colorado. He served in many Colorado government positions, especially as Notary Public for various Colorado counties.
