The history of Salina
Scope and Contents note
The History of Salina gives an account of the settlement, dwellings, farming, irrigation, wars, resettlement, growth of the Church, businesses, transportation, population growth and education of Salina, Utah. It covers events from 1864-1929. Names of settlers, Salina Ward Bishops, Choir directors, teachers, club leaders, other Church workers, midwives and businessmen are mentioned.
Twenty families were called by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to settle Salina, Utah. By 1864, they were working on irrigation and grew a good crop of grain. In 1865, Indians, led by Black Hawk, began to attack the settlers. Because of these attacks, Salina was deserted until 1871. A new wave of settlers established the Salina Ward in the Sevier Stake. Businesses, schools and transportation began to flourish.
