Biographical History

Bent Franklin Larsen (1882-1970) was an artist whose paintings are exhibited across the country in many different museums.

Bent Franklin Larsen was born in 1882 in Monroe, Utah. He attended school at Snow College after which he taught school for two years in Cove, Utah and Green River. He then enrolled at Brigham Young University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1912. He then attended the University of Utah where he received his Master of Arts in 1922. He married Geneva Day on September 10, 1907, they had five children. He traveled around the world and attended many art institutions. His paintings are exhibited across the country in many different museums. Many of his paintings have won awards. He was affiliated with BYU for over fifty years, many of those years were spent on the faculty in the art department. There is a gallery in the Harris Fine Arts Center at BYU that is named in honor of him.

Custodial History note

Found by a cousin of Loretta Evans and Ray Luce, grandchildren of B. F. Larsen. It was donated by Ray Luce and Loretta Evans to be photocopied and then returned to the cousin during the summer of 2008.

Appraisal note

This belongs in 19th-20th Century Western and Mormon Americana because it represents the artistic talent of a Mormon, living in Utah, that studied abroad for several years improving his talent and contributed to Brigham Young University by being a faculty member for several years. It also includes artwork that represents this area of the western United States.
