Biographical / Historical
Ina Coolbrith (1842?-1928) was born Josephine D. Smith in Nauvoo, Ill. At age ten her mother took her and fled polygamy in Utah with her second husband. The settled in California. In 1915 Coolbrith became poet laureate of California.
