Scope and Contents

Letters from Asimov to his editor, Walter I. Bradbury, and other members of the editorial staff at Doubleday and Company, Inc., including Betty Shapian, Tim Seldes, Natalie Greenberg, Gretchen Eisner, Laurence P. Ashmead, and Wendy Weil. The letters discuss some personal matters; contract provisions, royalty agreements, and publication rights; and manuscript corrections. They also trace the development and eventual publication of various books, including "Isaac Asimov's Biographical Encyclopedia of Science;" "Earth is Room Enough;" "The Naked Sun;" "Asimov's Guide to the Bible;" "Asimov's Mysteries;" "Nightfall and Other Stories;" "The Rest of the Robots;" "Of Time and Space and Other Things;" "View from a Height;" "Science Fiction for Science Students" (not published); "Adding a Dimension;" "Where Do We Go From Here?;" "Fact and Fancy;" and the first two volumes of "The Hugo Winners." Folder 11 contains a contemporary photograph of the Author.

Custodial History

Letters were accumulated by Walter I. Bradbury and his staff during their twenty-year period in the course of their business dealing with Isaac Asimov on behalf of Doubleday. These particular files were subsequently sold to dealers and then purchased from them by BYU in 1978 and 1980.
