Contains materials pertaining to Albert Aikens Smith's personal life and professional military life. Includes military papers, correspondence, maps, photographs and negatives from Smith’s time training and serving in the National Guard of Utah from 1929-1937, and the United States Army in WWII and the Korean War. Photographs and negatives also pertain to Smith’s personal life, focused on his wife and children. School yearbooks are from Smith’s time at David High School and BYU. The Albert Aikens Smith papers document his life as a citizen of Utah and a member of the United States military. Material covers a time span of 1920-1985.

Biographical history

Albert Aikens Smith (1906-1987) was a Latter-day Saint who served in the United States military during World War II.

Albert Aikens Smith was born January 7, 1906 in Granger, Utah, to Jesse Moroni Smith and Priscilla Smith. He went to Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah, and attended Brigham Young University in 1927-1929, and the University of Utah from 1947-1950. Smith enlisted in the National Guard of Utah in 1928 and served actively in this capacity until 1937. He served in the United States military during World War II. He later participated in campaigns in Europe in 1947 and Korea in 1953. During his military service, Smith held ranks of first and second lieutenant, captain, warrant officer, and major.

He married Glenden Nielsen on June 24, 1936. They had two children. He died June 28, 1987.
