Scope and Contents

Two-part autobiography written primarily in 1981 and 1995. Part one recalls his early life in Peterson, Utah, 1918-1931; and Morgan, Utah, 1931-1936. Also recounts experiences as undergraduate and graduate student at Brigham Young University, 1936-1942; PhD candidate at Stanford University, 1942-1945; and faculty member and administrator at Brigham Young University, 1945-1983. Part two covers period 1982-1995. Subjects include his participation in BYU study abroad program in Vienna, 1982; retirement from BYU, 1983; missions with his wife to Swiss Temple, 1984-1985, and Atlanta Temple, 1986-1987; trip to Far East, 1988; and trip to Pacific, 1991. Also includes stories about various family members. Includes account of participation in BYU tours to Europe and England (1952, 1954, 1958), and Hawaiian Islands (1956); administration work in variouis language programs at BYU, (1963-1981); participation in BYU study abroad programs in Austria and Germany (inaugural program, 1961), and Salzburg (Austria, 1977); and personal trip to Eastern Europe, 1982. On 1958 trip he visited London Temple dedication and Brussels World's Fair. Other countries which he mentions visiting include France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Holland, Sweden, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Norway, Greece, Yugoslavia, Israel, Spain, Finland, Soviet Union, Poland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, Korea, and Japan.
