Organizational History

The Democratic Party was officially organized in Utah in 1890, although limited partnerships with the national party had been formed many years prior. State politics were dramatically reorganized following the Manifesto discontinuing polygamy in the LDS Church, and the Utah Democratic Party emerged. Although the Republican Party dominated the state for much of the 20th century, the Democratic Party enjoyed some success in the state during the late 1950s and 1960s.
