Administrative History

The nonprofit Association for Mormon Letters promotes the production and study of Mormon literature, film, and drama and their enjoyment by all.

The Association for Mormon Letters was founded in 1976 by a group of volunteers who wanted to promote high-quality writing by, for, and about Mormons.

Abstract

Contains the corporate records (articles of incorporation, bylaws, tax exemption status documents, list of officers, etc.), select correspondence of officers, membership lists, association newsletters (drafts and final copy) and Internet list serve material. File materials are dated from 1979 to 1999. The files were created by association officers Levi S. Peterson of Weber State University (Ogden, Utah) and John S. Bennion of Brigham Young University (Provo, Utah). The association's purpose, which is currently active (year 2000), is to "foster scholarly and creative work and interest in the field of Mormon [Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints] literature (Bylaws 1981)."
