Biographical History

George D. Marler was born on June 28, 1898 to George Washington Marler and Martha Christiansen in Fremont, Idaho. He served as a Latter-day Saint missionary to Central States Mission from 1919 to 1922. He began working as a ranger naturalist at Yellowstone National Park in 1931. In 1946 he married Laura Sherburne. He retired from his permanent position at Yellowstone in 1966. In 1962, Brigham Young University awarded him with an honorary doctorate degree. He received a citation for distinguished service from the United States Department of Interior in 1967 for contributions in the field of hydrothermal geology at Yellowstone National Park. He died on July 10, 1978 in Thornton, Idaho. He was buried in Little Butte Cemetery in Jefferson, Idaho.
