Reginald Dobbs interview
Scope and Contents
Transcript of an interview conducted by Mike West on 27 Oct. 1985 for the Ray Hillam war project. Dobbs arrived in Vietnam in 1971 and served as an assistant executive officer for an artillery battery. Later, he was assigned as artillery liaison officer for 2nd Battalion First Marines, which was the last Marine infantry unit active in Vietnam. He talked about freezing up the first time he was in combat, and he told about his other experiences in war. He said he was frustrated at times and often bored from waiting. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spoke about how his religion influenced his fear in combat. He believed that if our country is in danger it is our duty to go to war.
