Scope and Contents
A collection of glass negative plates made by Mark Lewis James of scenes from the mining town of Bingham Canyon, Utah and of James' family members and aquaintances, dated approximately 1900 to 1920. Also includes photographic prints of digital images of the negatives and digitized images.

Biographical / Historical
Mark Lewis James was born on October 26, 1871, to Mark and Harriet James in Olean, Cattaraugus County, New York. He owned the five and dime store in Bingham Canyon, Utah. He loved photography and would use the photographs he took to make postcards he could sell in his store. He died on July 29, 1944, in Bingham, Utah.

Plates made by Mark Lewis James. Donated by Fran and George Stokes in July 2015 and April 2016. James' plates of Bingham Canyon without people featured in their images were donated to the Utah Historical Society.
