Letter to Joseph O. Boggs, brother of Missouri Governor Lilburn W. Boggs, from Martin Wines. Wines writes from Linton, Indiana, to Boggs in Independence, Missouri, giving updates about friends. The letter mentions David Osborn, an early Latter-day Saint pioneer who was involved in the Mormon-Missouri War and other events in early Church history, and whose mother had married Leonard Wines, who is also mentioned in the letter. Dated February 24, 1840.

Biographical / Historical

Joseph O. Boggs was born to John McKinley Boggs and Martha Oliver Boggs in 1808 in Fayette, Kentucky. He was the brother of Lilburn W. Boggs as well as three other siblings. He was living in Independence, Missouri in 1840. Joseph died in 1889 in California.

Martin Wines was born on December 14, 1791, in Greene, Indiana to Leonard Wines and Rhoda Baldwin. He married Elizabeth A. Bowlsby on January 24, 1811 in Greene, Indiana, and together they had nine children. He died on February 24, 1864 in Linton, Indiana.
