C. N. Brown missionary journal

 Item — Folder: 1
Identifier: MSS 9518

Scope and Contents

Missionary journal kept by C. N. Brown, a missionary for the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (RLDS). Dated approximately 1860 to 1870. The majority of the text consists of religious content concerning Mormonism and missionary sermons from Latter-day Saint Church doctrine and events related to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the RLDS church. It is written to be like a "Missionary Pal," including numerous references concerning Church history and biblical events supportive to Mormonism. It also includes a significant notation concerning those who conspired to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln, naming each one who was hanged (page 227). A letter addressed to Mrs. Albert Hall, dated May 1860, one month after the RLDS church was established, is included.
