Scope and Contents

Included are diaries, notebooks, and photographs related to the missionary service of Alma Theodore Madsen in the Southwestern States Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The diary encompasses entries dating from July to October 1902. Also included is a book for reporting missionary statistics, dated from November 1900 to May 1901. The donor as well donated two photocopied photographs and a brief note with information about Madsen. Dated approximately 1900-1902.

Biographical / Historical

Alma Theodore Madsen (1877-1949) was born and raised in northern Utah as member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he lived and worked until his death.

Alma Theodore Madsen was born on April 18, 1877 in Lakeviiew, Utah to Peter Madsen and Lena Johnson. At age 23 Madsen was called as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the Southwestern State Mission from 1900 to 1902. He married Sarah Eliza Carter (1883–1945) on January 6, 1904. Madsen resided his whole life in the Provo, Utah area with his wife and nine children, working as a miner and foreman until his death on July 16, 1949.
