Biographical History

Lorenzo Wickliffe Smith (1897-1970) was an Arizona-based businessman and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Lorenzo (Wick) Wickliffe Smith was born on February 19, 1897 in Snowflake, Navajo County, Arizona to John Walter Smith and Lois Evelyn Bushman Smith. In his childhood, Wick survived being run over with a cart in what his family considered a miracle. He attended and graduated from Snowflake Stake Academy, while working as a freight car driver for his father’s mail route. On June 5, 1918 Wick married Blanche Rogers in the Salt Lake City Temple and a year later moved to Gila Valley to farm with his father. In 1824 Wick moved his family to Tucson so he could attend the University of Arizona. A year later Wick switched from education to a Sunset Dairy route and quickly become their top salesman. Wick eventually bought Modern Dairy and involved his whole family in the production and delivery of their milk products. After their youngest child left home, Wick and his wife served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Great Lakes while their sons ran the business. When Wick sold the diary in 1862, the couple moved to Mesa and served in the LDS Mesa Temple.

Lorenzo Wickliffe Smith died on October 21, 1970 in Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona.

Biographical History

Blanche Rogers Smith (1899-1979) was a faithful wife, mother, and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Blanche Rodgers was born February 15, 1899 in Snowflake, Arizona to Davis Samuel Rogers and Minnie Alice Woolley. She was raised with strong religious morals taught by her parents and their example. After graduating from the 8th grade at Snowflake District School, Blanch had to discontinue her education to help her frequently sick mother in taking care of the home. At 16 she began working as a washer for the Houghton Hotel to help her family. On June 5, 1918 Blanche married her sweetheart, Lorenzo Wickliffe Smith, in the Salt Lake City Temple. After the birth of their first child, the young couple moved to Gila Valley in 1919 so Wick could farm with his father. After 5 years they moved to Tucson so Wick could attend the University of Arizona. Blanche supported her husband in his many business moves, which eventually led to owning their own dairy production business, which they operated until selling it in 1962. Blanche and Wick were able to serve in the Great Lakes Mission for their church from 1952-1954 and again in the Mesa Temple upon their retirement.

Blanche Rodgers Smith died in Phoenix, Arizona on February 12, 1979, 9 years after her husband’s death in 1970.
