Charles Richard Fillerup letters
Scope and Contents
Contains pictures from the studio of Peter Fillerup, as well as pictures of his sculptures located in Brigham Young Park in Salt Lake City, Utah. Also contains letters from Charles Richard Fillerup and Moneta Johnson Fillerup to Anders Peter Fillerup. The letters document their life in the Mexican colony including weather, marriages, Charles's work as principle of The Diaz Academy, sickness, missionary work, and other church related events. Letters are dated 1897- 1909 and photographs approximately 2000.

Biographical History
Charles Richard Fillerup (1873-1936) was a school principal in Chihuahua, Mexico.
Charles Richard Fillerup was born on November 11, 1873 in Provo, Utah to parents Anders Peter and Caroline Rasmussen Fillerup. After graduating from Brigham Young Academy he was called to work as principal in the school at the Mormon colony in Mexico. Here he met Moneta Johnson. They were married on June 1, 1898 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they had thirteen children. He married Mary Evalyn Johnson on November 19, 1901 in Chihuahua.
They lived in Mexico for some time before they were forced to flee to Arizona. Here he began work as a school teacher and principle at various institutions.
Fillerup passed away on February 20, 1936 in Flagstaff, Arizona. He is buried in Snowflake, Arizona.

Moneta Johnson Fillerup (1882-1965) was a member of the Mormon colonies in Mexico, a wife, and a mother.
Moneta Johnson Fillerup was born on January 29, 1882 in Kanab, Utah to parents William Derby Johnson Jr. and Charlesetta Prescott Cram. Shortly after her birth her family moved to Chihuahua, Mexico where they lived in Colonia Diaz, a Mormon settlement in Mexico. At the age of fourteen she met Charles Richard Fillerup. They were married two years later on June 1, 1898 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they had 13 children. They lived in Mexico for quite some time before being forced into Arizona. While Richard worked she took care of their children.
Moneta passed away on May 17, 1965 in Mesa, Arizona. She is buried in Snowflake, Arizona.
