Collection contains the authobiographies of Brigham Loyd Keyes and his wife Margaret Lorraine Larsen Keyes. Also contains newspaper clippings from World War II pertaining to the different bases Brigham worked at, along with other papers from his service. Diaries and logs from the war are also included. Materials date from to 1942-1981

Biographical / Historical

Brigham Loyd Keyes (1912-1993) was a member of the U.S. Navy and a father.

Brigham Loyd Keyes was born on October 29, 1912 in Ogden, Utah to parents Junius Wilford and Bertha Davies Keyes. He grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, graduating from Granite High School and briefly attending LDS Business College. He worked as an artist in Salt Lake City painting for the Orpheum Theater. He then became a mail clerk for the U.S. Postal Service.

While in Salt Lake, he met Margaret Lorraine Larsen and they were married on March 2, 1935. Together they had one daughter. They moved to Ogden where he began to work, but following the beginning of World War II he enlisted in the Navy. Following training in California, he was chosed to work for the Navy Postal Service. The war ended and Brigham received a Good Conduct Metal for his service. He was honorably discharged from the Navy and returned to live with his wife and daughter. He continued on to work with the Railway Mail Service. He retired in 1964 adn he and his wife moved to Spring City, Utah.

He passed away on December 18, 1993 after a sudden heart attack. He is buried in Spring City, Utah next to his wife.

Margaret Lorraine Larsen Keyes (1910-1996) was a wife and mother.

Margaret Lorraine Larsen Keyes was born on August 17, 1910 in Spring City, Utah to parents Soren Lewis and Mette Marie Margrete Nielsen Larsen. She attended high school until 1918 when it was disrupted by the influenza pandemic. She moved to Salt Lake where she worked in someones home. It is here that she met Brigham Loyd Keyes.

Loyd and Margaret were married on March 2, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Soon after they moved to Ogden where they built their first home. In May of 1940 they had their first and only child. Her husband went to war and Margaret turned to scrapbooking to occupy her time. She also spent her time serving in the Parent Teacher Association, Girl Scouts, the American Legion, and within her ward. In 1972, she and Loyd reurned to Spring City, Utah.

She died on November 24, 1996 in Provo, Utah. She is buried in Spring City, Utah with her husband.
