Scope and Contents

Contains Mack Wilberg's music scores and manuscripts from works that he both composed and arranged. These are works that he has used in his careers as conductor and director or many choirs. There are also audio and visual recordings for some of his works and performances. Included in the collection are his personal papers, which include both personal and professional correspondence as well as ephemera. The majority of the materials come from his time as a professor at Brigham Young Univeristy, but there are also works and papers from his education and time as a graduate student. The collection also contains music scores used by Wilberg as conductor of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Dated approximately 1973-2011.

Biographical History

Dr. Mack Wilberg (born 1955) is a world renowned composer and director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Wilberg was raised in Castle Dale, Utah. He learned the piano and became a gifted clarinetist. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Korea and was part of a missionary vocal group called New Horizons. Wilberg attend Brigham Young University and received his bachelor's degree. He received his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Southern California. He became a professor at Brigham Young University and conducted the Concert Choir and Men's Chorus. In May 1999 Wilberg was appointed to associate director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Temple Square Chorale conductor. On March 28, 2008, he was appointed director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
