Biographical History
Otto Reinhold Jacobi (1812-1901) was born in Königsberg, in Western Prussia. Jacobi studied art in Königsberg and Berlin before entering the Düsseldorf Fine Arts Academy, where he studied with Johann Wilkem Schirmer. From 1840 to 1860, he was employed by a German prince in Wiesbaden. Then around 1860 he emigrated to Canada, settling in Montréal. Jacobi worked as a landscape painter around Montréal, Québec, Ottawa and Kingston. In 1890 he left Canada to live with his brother in Ardoch, North Dakota, remaining there until his death in 1901.
