Scope and Contents
1 photograph of Bayard Taylor, ca. 1860s. On verso: "86. Bayard Taylor. Author of John Halifax?" Bayard Taylor was born January 11, 1825 to Joseph and Rebecca Way Taylor. During his years in school, Bayard grew a love for literature and was determined to be a poet. At the age of nineteen, Bayard and two others, Barclay Pennock and Franklin Taylor, set off on an adventure. They journeyed through Europe for two years, which sparked Bayard's second love, travel. He was the author of many books and poems, many of which detailed his travels. He died of a liver condition and edema in Berlin, Germany, (where he was serving as the Minister to Germany) on December 19, 1878.
